The House of the Northern Gate is a striking example of Scotland’s architectural heritage. Built in the Scottish Baronial style, its turrets, crow-stepped gables, and tall chimneys reflect a romantic revival of medieval design, rooted in national pride and local tradition. The house tells a story not just of the family who built it, but of the wider history of Caithness. It looks out on the Caithness coastal landscape but it also looks forward: its careful preservation, high levels of sustainability and continued use as a welcoming retreat ensure that this architectural gem remains a living part of the community.
