In 1917, the Provincial Council of Bizkaia initiated an ambitious plan to create neighborhood schools (Auzo-eskolak) for the literacy of the rural population. In its construction also participated the city councils and, often, the neighbors themselves.
Amorebieta-Etxano preserves four schools with their architecture and distribution characteristics. All have been rehabilitated by the city council and today they are used as communal and cultural spaces
