The mining schools in the Triano mountains
Guided walking tour
Since the middle of the 19th century, thousands of bracero workers arrived at the mining area of Las Encartaciones and, more specifically, the Triano mountains, looking for work in the extraction of the vein (mineral of iron). They were located in unpopulated areas around the mines and created important cores such as Labarga, La Arboleda, Triano, Balastera, Putxeta and others.
These villages of hasty creation lacked any kind of infrastructure. Little by little, they left building schools, at first wooden shacks, later on,
stone houses, until the arrival of the Republic that promoted the creation of new centers.
The route starts in Triano and ends in Putxeta, and we will visit
living examples like the schools of Triano, the "university" with Periko
Solabarria, Las Calizas with Cayetano Linaza, El Campillo, Balastera,
Cotorrio and others.
