Overview

Guided visit.
The approval of the Gallano Motion in 1919 by the Provincial Council
Foral de Vizcaya began the process of building more
of 100 Neighbourhood Schools, with the aim of reducing the high illiteracy and to correct the educational-cultural imbalances of
the province, reflected, above all, in the rural areas and mining neighbourhoods.
In accordance with the regulations, Barakaldo met the conditions
to be able to open a "neighbourhood school". The school designed by
Ismael Gorostiza was opened in January 1928 with 105 students
from Bilbao, Barakaldo or Alonsotegi. The building of one plant consisted of three classrooms, a dining room and several bathrooms. Today, that school has become a fantastic museum space where
you can admire in a surprising and exceptional way what was
education more than 90 years ago.
