Viikolla 43 meillä Mäntylässä on vietetty perinneviikkoa ja mietitty joka päivä mitä tarkoittaa kulttuuriperintö?

Olemme miettineet millaista elämä oli ennen, silloin kun äiti ja isä olivat pieniä, millaisia leikkejä silloin leikittiin sisällä ja ulkona, millaisia lauluja lapset ovat aina laulaneet suomessa? Lähestyimme aihetta myös satujen kautta; meillä on pitkin syksyä luettu vanhoja satuja ja esitetty niitä pöytäteatterina. Ja koska myös pelit ovat osa meidän arkea, on pohdittu myös sitä, oliko näitä samoja pelejä jo silloin kauan sitten? Pikku Kakkosen Milja ja Ukko tarinat ovat myös siivittäneet viikkoamme ja olemmekin jutelleet, mitä kaikkea isovanhempien kanssa voi tehdä ja jutella, onko se samanlaista kuin omien vanhempien kanssa?

Lapset ovat miettineet myös aihetta kotona vanhempiensa kanssa. Yhteinen keskustelu on ollut antoisaa ja kaikki, niin lapset kuin aikuisetkin ovat kuunnelleet kiinnostuneina toistensa tarinoita siitä, mitä vanhemmat ovat kertoneet tehneensä lapsuudessaan. Osa lapsista oli keskustellut myös isovanhempiensa kanssa heidän lapsuudestaan.

Mitä juhlia Mäntylän eskarit tietävät ja miten niitä vietetään?

”No pääsiäinen. Silloin juhlitaan pääsiäistä kindermunien kanssa. Ne on suklaamunia. Silloin voi maalta kananmunia. Kerran äiti tyhjensi kananmunan, ja sit se maalattiin. Se oli ninja. Kerran pääsiäisenä meillä oli virpomisoksia mukana ja käytiin virpomassa. Sit saatiin karkkia.

Jouluna saadaan lahjoja. Silloin voi mennä joulukuusen alle nukkumaan ja nähdä tontun. Silloin syödään joulukinkkua ja porkkanalaatikkoa. Kun on syöty, mennään saunaan ja valmistaudutaan joulupukin tuloon. MÄ syön muuten jouluna jätskiä. Yhtenä jouluna mä sain joulupuurossa kaksi mantelia peräkkäin! Me ollaan jouluna meiän serkuilla yötä. Meillä taas on aina viisi ruokaa silloin ja me syödään sitä jotain lanttulaatikkoa. Mä en kyl tykkää siitä. Mä pistän aina kanelia mun puuroon. Ja sokeria kans. Joka joulu ollaan yhdessä serkkujen kanssa ja lauletaan ja avataan joululahjat. Kerran joulupukki tuli kesken kaiken ku oltiin laulamassa kulkusia.

Vappu on juhla. Silloin saa ilmapalloja. Mä yritin kerran ampua nerfillä mun dinosauruspalloa katosta alas. Melkein joka vappu me unohdetaan ne pallot sinne kattoon. Me tehtiin kerran piknik sisällä. Silloin koristellaan konfeteilla koti. Mä muistan kun päiväkodissa lensi jonkun vappupallo! Mä näin ulkona puussa jonkun vappupallon ja siellä oli leijakin.

Uutena vuotena ammutaan raketteja. Silloin vaihtuu vuosi.

Joskus oli kevätjuhlia. Nyt en muista ku on korona. Kevätjuhlissa oli se näytelmä et oltiin lavallla ja esitettiin ”leijonaa mä metsästän”.

Päiväkodissa on aina aurinkojuhla. Silloin pukeudutaan keltaiseen, askarrellaan keltaisia juttuja ja lauletaan keltaisia lauluja. Syödäänkin keltaista.

Juhannuksena mennään aina mökille. Siellä sytytetään juhannuskokko. Se oli ainakin jonkun ison puun kokoinen. Juhannus on kesällä. Silloin voi käydä juhannussaunassa.

The Mäntylä preschooler's visions of their cultural heritage

The Mäntylä preschool celebrated traditions during on the week 43 thinking about cultural heritage and its meaning.

We’ve been pondering how was life in the past when mum and dad were children. What kind of games they used to play in and out? What songs have the Finnish children always used to sing? We approached this theme also through fairy tales, reading old stories and expressing them on rod-puppet theatre.

And because different games are part of our daily lives, we’ve been discussing if these games existed a long time ago. The stories in a children’s television programme “Milja and Ukko” have also given wings to our week and we’ve been discussing what children can do and talk with their grandparents. Does it differ from spending time with their parents?

The preschoolers have also pondered these subjects at home with their parents. The discussions have been fruitful and both the children and the adults have been listening with interest the stories about the parent's and gransparent's childhood.

The drawings and the captions present toys and games that have connections to preschooler'sparents or grandparents. Here are some examples of the captions:

“I play with my mum’s old dolls.”

“These are the legos my dad used to play with. Now I have them. I also play with my dad’s old toy cars.”

“I love playing with mum’s old barbies.”

“My dad used to ride a hobby horse when he was little.”

“My grandma used to sing a song about bears when she was little.”

The gourp also discussed what days of festivities the preschoolers are familiar with and how these days are celebrated. 

"Well, Easter. Then we celebrate Easter with Kinder eggs. They are chocolate eggs. You can decorate eggs. Once mum emptied an egg, and we decorated it. It was a ninja. Once we had "virpomisoksia*" with us and went "virpomaan*".  Then we got candies. (* Translators note: a "virpomisoksa" is a branch of salix tree decorated with eg. feathers. The "virpominen" is a tradition where the children, often dressed as witches, knock at neighbours' doors pronouncing a rhyme and leaving the branch as a gift, often receiving sweets in return. The tradition has various pagan and Christian origins.)

On Christmas we get presents. Then you can go sleeping under the christmas tree and see an christmas elf. We have carrots casserole and roast ham for Christmas. After dinner, we go to sauna and get ready for Santa Claus. By the way I eat ice-cream on Christmas. Once I got two almonds from my Christmas porridge! We stay overnight at our cousins. We have always five dishes and we eat that swede pudding, but I don't like it. I always put cinnamon to my porridge. And also sugar. We spend every Christmas with our cousins singing and opening presents. Once Santa came when we were singing Kulkusia (=Jingle Bells).

May Day is a day of festivities. You get balloons. I once used to shoot my dinosaur balloon down from the ceiling with my Nerf toy gun. Almost every May Day we forget the balloons to the ceiling. Once we had a picnic inside. We decorate our home. I remember someones balloon flying in the day nursery. I saw a balloon in a tree and there was also a kite.

On New Year we have fire works. Then the year turns.

We used to have end-of-term celebrations in the spring.  Now I can't remember because of the covid19. We presented a play on the stage and performed Leijonaa mä metsästän -song in the end-of-term celebration.

We have always a Sun celebration in the day nursery. Then we wear yellow, do yellow crafts and sing yellow songs. We also eat yellow dishes.

On Midsummer we go always to our summer cottage. We light a midsummer bonfire. It was as huge as a big tree. Midsummer is on summer. You can go to midsummer sauna then."
