Overview

There are sixteen milky mountains in the Soča Valley below the highest peak of Krn. The mountains have a thousand-year tradition, cows graze on them and their milk is processed into cheese and cottage cheese.
his story is about an old mountain Leskovca. The stables were built with the remains of the Isonzo Front, and because of that the mountain became protected as a monument. But in 1998 an earthquake happened and the buildings were damaged. The owners returned a few years later, partially restored the mountain in their own way. But here there are cows again, people still live according to the old custom and cheese is made. The famous cheese of Soča Valley is Tolminc. Good milk is important for good cheese and good milk is given by cika cattle, which is the native Slovenian breed and is perfectly adapted to the mountain world.

The story is told by four cousins who have been visiting the mountain Leskovca since they were little kids. Here their father and uncle Bojan have been the landlord for many years, and Igor, who knows many great things about the history, is the cheesemaker. They feel good here and keep coming back here. That’s why in the video (made by the great help of an artist Lene) also talk about how we should help the mountains, Tolminc and cika continue to be our heritage.
