Overview

Three groups of 4th grade students born in 2014 in Agora Portals (a total of 57 students) have been working on a unit of inquiry related to the importance of the preservation of our natural and cultural heritage. One of the activities they carried out was the creation of these traditional statues (Siurells) which is a significant example of cultural heritage for our island´s history. In the video, the students shared their perception and comments to accompany the making off process. A Siurell is a traditional clay whistling, anthropomorphic figurine typically small, white, green and red. The students appreciated very much the importance of preserving our culture and the opportunity they had to contribute to it but also enjoyed sharing their knowledge with their international classmates. Although we are an international school with students of many nationalities, we feel it is important to involve them in the process of becoming aware of the local traditions encouraging them to share theirs too. We hope you will like our artworks and our attempt to become Cultural Heritage Makers!
