Overview

Las alumnas Emely, Paula,Claudia,Natalia ,Saleth  hemos hecho este trabajo en el que contamos e informamos sobre la Iglesia de Villabad de Castroverde, Galicia

The church is located in Lugo’s town of Villabad, belonging to the municipality of Castroverde, in Galicia.

Dedicated to Santa Maria, it constitutes a valuable example of the 15th century of Gothic style, with elements on the facade of the Galician Baroque and neoclassical and a single vaulted nave, highlighting inside the imagery and altars of the sixteenth century.

It was declared a historical-artistic monument, of a national character, on November 16, 1979.

Later reformed in the 18th century, only the apse and its triumphal arch are preserved, as a testimony of its Gothic factory

After a lawsuit, which arises shortly after 1472, the council of Lugo will take over Santa María de Vilabade, thus concluding its link with the Franciscans.

The doorway today is preceded by a noble Renaissance portico with five arches on pillars and access stairs in the central arch. With a triangular pediment, framed by a rectilinear outer frame that rests on pilasters, with flamerocrothers at the ends, and at the apex, a cross on the sphere of creation, surrounded by a snake symbol of temptation.

In the center of the tympanum, a shield with the emblem of Osorio. The corridor extends along the first section of the south side of the church, where there is currently a door, perhaps carried out in the reforms of the seventeenth century, through which the temple is accessed.
