"EL PASADO DE LA XARA"

Somos Maria a e Isabel, alumnas del colegio San José. Fundación Educativa Madre Micaela HHDC y vivimos en la Valldigna. Un valle en el que en la Edad Media existieron siete pueblos musulmanes: Simat, Benifairó, la Xara, l’Alfulell, Gebalcobra, Massalari y l’Alcudiola y un pequeño pueblo cristiano. Os vamos a enseñar un lugar muy especial, se trata de uno de los edificios más antiguos y es un ejemplo de cómo se pueden unir dos religiones y culturas diferentes en un mismo sitio. Se trata de La Xara, una pequeña mezquita donde oraban los musulmanes del poblado de la Xara y que después los cristianos convirtieron en la ermita de Santa Ana. Esto hace que sea muy interesante, porque podemos ver cómo se mezclan las dos religiones y culturas en un mismo lugar. Podemos fijarnos en cada detalle: el arco de herradura por donde entraban los musulmanes, los arcos góticos que hicieron los cristianos, el minarete desde donde llamaban a la oración, el mihrab, que es lo más importante para los musulmanes, y el altar, que es lo más importante para los cristianos. También podemos imaginar cómo se distribuían las alfombras y los bancos, y cómo sonaban las campanas y se hacía la llamada a la oración. Todo eso nos ayuda a entender el edificio y a valorar cómo se mezclaron las dos culturas sin que ninguna desapareciera.

Por eso es un edificio tan especial. Es como la Mezquita de Córdoba, donde dentro de la mezquita hicieron una gran iglesia. Es un ejemplo de cómo musulmanes y cristianos han compartido el mismo espacio cómo sagrado, y de cómo un mismo edificio cuenta la historia de los dos.

Por todo esto, la mezquita de la Xara no es solo un edificio antiguo, sino un lugar donde se puede aprender mucho sobre convivencia, respeto y la unión de culturas distintas. Nosotras estamos muy orgullosas de mostrar este edificio porque es un testigo de la historia de la Valldigna y de cómo un mismo lugar puede ser sagrado para diferentes religiones y cómo diferentes pueblos pudieron vivir y trabajar juntos. Es un ejemplo que nos enseña que incluso hoy podemos aprender a convivir y respetar a los demás. La historia de la mezquita de la Xara nos recuerda que todos podemos dejar nuestra huella y que cada cultura aporta algo valioso al mundo.

"THE PAST OF LA XARA"

We are Maria and Isabel, students at San José School, Madre Micaela Educational Foundation HHDC, and we live in La Valldigna. It is a valley where, in the Middle Ages, there were seven Muslim villages: Simat, Benifairó, La Xara, l’Alfulell, Gebalcobra, Massalari, and l’Alcudiola, and one small Christian village.

We are going to show you a very special place. It is one of the oldest buildings and an example of how two different religions and cultures can come together in the same place. It is La Xara, a small mosque where the Muslims of the village of La Xara used to pray, and later the Christians turned it into the Hermitage of Santa Ana.

This makes it very interesting because we can see how both religions and cultures mixed in the same place. We can look at every detail: the horseshoe arch through which the Muslims entered, the Gothic arches built by the Christians, the minaret from which the call to prayer was made, the mihrab, which is the most important part for Muslims, and the altar, which is the most important for Christians. We can also imagine how the carpets and benches were arranged, and how the bells rang and the call to prayer sounded. All of this helps us understand the building and appreciate how the two cultures blended without either disappearing.

That is why it is such a special building. It is like the Mosque of Córdoba, where a large church was built inside the mosque. It is an example of how Muslims and Christians have shared the same space as sacred, and how a single building tells the story of both.

For all these reasons, the mosque of La Xara is not just an old building, but a place where we can learn a lot about coexistence, respect, and the union of different cultures. We are very proud to show this building because it is a witness to the history of La Valldigna and of how the same place could be sacred for different religions and how different peoples were able to live and work together. It is an example that teaches us that even today we can learn to live together and respect others. The story of the mosque of La Xara reminds us that everyone can leave their mark and that every culture contributes something valuable to the world.
