Overview

The video talks about the heritage of Burgos. For us, heritage is something unique and typical that attracts tourists and represents the city. There are three types: the first is cultural heritage, which includes monuments, languages, and important documents; the second is natural heritage, which encompasses living beings; and the third is intangible heritage, which refers to our celebrations, cuisine, myths, and traditional songs. Heritage is an identifier that tells us about how we were, how we are, and how we will be.

In our video, we talk about the typical heritage of Burgos and heritage that has something to do with Europe. To begin with, we talk about the Espolón, which is a typical promenade in our city. The Santa María arch, which also encompasses Europe, because it attracts tourists and because it is one of the things you see in the city of Burgos. Also because it is close to the cathedral. We have exchanges with other European countries, and they come to learn about our culture, heritage...

We move on to the Camino de Santiago, which also encompasses Europe because it passes through another European country, France. And we arrive at the Cathedral, which is very important for Burgos. Inside it are the remains of CID and his wife. And also Pope Moscas.

The Burgos City Hall is also a heritage site, as is the Casa del Cordón, where Philip “the Handsome” died.

Next, there is a statue of a dog, a Perdiguero Burgalés breed. And we arrive at the Teatro Principal, where plays, dances, and concerts are performed, which may be of interest to tourists. Next to it is the statue of El Cid, who is very important to Burgos. And the San Pablo bridge with different figures.

We move on to the castle, which was blown up by Napoleon's troops in 1813, which is why it also represents Europe.

And the Forum of Human Evolution, which represents the development of human beings throughout history. (Therefore, it could also encompass Europe). Next to it, there is a mural, and we took the opportunity to mention a contest organized by the Burgos City Council in which we participated. And finally, we talked about a plaque on the Printing House, which is a heritage site because it was there that the first printing of a literary work by Fernando de Rojas, La Celestina, took place.

What personal heritage represents me? -Natalia

In the video, we talk about what represents us from Burgos. One example would be the statue of the pilgrim next to the Cathedral. It represents his perseverance, his willpower to reach Burgos, his effort, his camaraderie as a pilgrim, his positivity in walking even when it is difficult, and his hard work. Another heritage that represents me, Natalia, is Félix Rodríguez de la Fuente, a famous naturalist who was born in Poza de la Sal. What makes him represent me is that, like me, he was born in Burgos. He is also important to me because, like him, I share a love for nature and animals. He also represents me because he had pets, two wolves, in my case dogs, turtles, chickens, etc. I want to do something related to nature when I grow up, like him, so he represents me.

What personal heritage represents me? -Miriam

For me, the heritage that represents me could be my cell phone, my room, my sketchbook... because it represents me and contains information about me. And if we're talking about things in the environment, I am represented by the statue of the dog in Plaza España, because the statue represents a breed of dog from Burgos, called Perdiguero Burgalés, and it represents me because I really like animals and I like that Burgos has its own breed of dogs. Another statue that represents me is a bronze bull in Plaza de Vadillos, near Avenida del Cid.

That statue represents the fact that there used to be a bullring there, which was demolished in 1967, and it represents culture and tradition. However, for me, it represents the fact that I feel that the bulls have “won the battle,” that is, since that bullring was demolished, no more bulls will die there as a result of animal abuse.
