Overview

My story is the story of my parents (mum and dad) who worked hard every days of their life in their goldsmithery workshop. Valenza is the city of gold, it's the goldsmith site most ancient and most famous in Italy but it's famous in Europe and worldwide, too. Mam and dad choose this work because in Valenza every person do this kind of job and I wanto to thank them because they spent all the money they earn to make me study. And if I'm here dropping you my story that means I could study a lot as I know how to get access to EU funds and awards (and it isn't a so an easy task) and, in addition to that, I can speck English well enought to tell you the story of Valenza, the gold city numer one in Italy. We handcraft the high jewellery you've ever seen and in Valenza the art of goldsmithery is the heritahe work and skill for our sons.

The Community engaged linked to the heritage of the goldsmith district of Valenza (AL) ITALY. In the town of Valenza, the work of goldsmithery can be traced back to the enterprise of Mr. Vincenzo Morosetti, who in 1845 opened his workshop, appointing as apprentices, two young goldsmiths coming from the near city of Alessandria to help him in his small plant: Mr. Francesco Zacchetti and Mr. Carlo Bigatti. As a matter of fact, statistical historical sources has already recorded (few years earlier than Morosetti) the presence, in Valenza, of these two goldsmiths alongside two watchmakers and two sellers of jewellery. Likely, these were small business enterprises, both in the hand of concerns’ size and in the hand of quality of jewels, whose outcome, (it was believed to be costume jewelery rather than fine jewelry), was sold for local customers only. Later on Mr. Morosetti started a jewellery production of a sure value employing craft skills that were particularly advanced and refined. His workers, Mr. Bigatti and Mr. Zacchetti left the workshop a few years later, to get started their own goldsmith workshop. Carlo Bigatti's company set up its production focusing on a first form of task sharing. His workers tasks (as spotted by a survey), were: carvers, goldsmiths, enamellers, cleaners. In 1850 the goldsmith's workshops in Valenza were three, in 1872 two more were added and they got employed 110 workers overall. The passing of time in the goldsmith district of Valenza: the goldsmithery heritage as a resource for our youths’ future for this skill&art becomes their heart Time is the key element of the goldsmith district to understand its heritage alongside and the life of the people who live and work in that area. Time has allowed the goldsmiths to refine specific manufacturing processes (especially CAD technology as regards design) but it has left substantially unchanged the handcrafting stage of the jewels to the point that, still today, it is characterized by excellent craftsmanship and particular manual skill that marks the goldsmith artisans of Valenza from all the others coming from worldwide. What are the characteristics of the Valenza goldsmith site when they are brought together with time factor? Which is the culturally significant related to European cultural heritage? Ethics: DIVALENZA is the collective and geographical Identification (the so-called Anglo-Saxon GI, the Geographic Indication) that identifies and marks out the goldsmith district of Valenza (which is set by the area of the Province of Alessandria and the neighboring municipalities with particular reference to those placed on the left bank of the Po river that fall in the Province of Pavia (the goldsmith district of Mede). DIVALENZA sets people at the center of its activities both as goldsmith entrepreneurs, as well as employees (to whom economic rights and not only must be fully recognized) and both as people who live and study in the city of Valenza (in this last hypothesis we speak of DIVALENZA for non profit org). on the top of that, the production specification of the Consorzio del Marchio Orafo Divalenza sets out the production standards that must be respected by goldsmith companies (Attention for the enhancement of human values and respect for the skills of the resources that collaborate in goldsmith companies). Synergy: Synergy should be understood as the sharing in the DIVALENZA doings of a plurality of performers: surely the goldsmiths as they are the key point of the DIVALENZA business but also managers, the University (BBS Bologna Business School), the one-off role of the local Chamber of Commerce but also the people who live in Valenza. Every single one gets involved in DIVALENZA according to his/her professional skills, craftsmanship or simply experience. The personal contribution of everyone is the key point: synergy is always subjective and never merely financial only. Digitization: It should always keep in mind that the time factor is the keynote to understand the business model of the DIVALENZA. It comes in when the customer reaches out to so many jewels that she, like others before her, have already picked up and worn for testing. The customer does not want to choose a jewel among the many but wants a personalized experience. She wants a jewel made for her, a really tailor made jewel that no one else has ever pre-handled. The digital transformation that DIVALENZA alongside the BBS and the CCIAA is carrying on, involves the digital review of the process related to the sale, the supply chain and delivery stage of the jewel. At what stages does the digitization process take place? The production stage is definitely not involved into the digitization process; the level of production of the jewel keeps on being handmade and its craftsmanship is conceptually conceived to set unchanged over time; what is affected by digitization power or what is the subject of digital innovation, are the information flows and the sales channels; they have been thought in a new formula by DIVALENZA business models for letting fully grasp the opportunities brought by the latest technologies and the latest channels online. What the DIVALENZA is showing you is the outlook of the goldsmith heritage because the upgrading of the distribution channels, sales cannels and communication chain will allow goldsmiths to carry on their artisan history while allowing them, at the same time, to take care for full-time about production according to the ancient skills (leaving digital to non-artisan undertakings only, both inherent and/or consequent). Digital will allow you to use consumables (such as paper) to a minimum because archives, flows, data, logistics etc. they will be completely digital (this is the GREEN soul of DIVALENZA). What is the function of digital transformation? The digital technology will concern the delivery, the communication, the diffusion and the branding of the jewels handcrafted in the gold district of Valenza while “craftsmanship” will be the key password in the goldsmith's workshops. A history, that one of Valenza, to tell but also to spread through an emotional journey that will develop online in the first virtual store; it will be a showcase – definitely digital oriented - which allows the internet user not only to land in a digital site where to buy a jewel but also a roomy place to truly and emotionally feel the goldsmith heritage; all that will come to you in a virtual tour where you will be able to learn, discover and join the several processing stages; where you will be able to share the whole manifacturing chain by discovering people's faces, the expressions of those men and women who daily feed the hard work of the goldsmith district of Valenza. What's the point about my story? Valenza is the heritage of craftmenship related to jewellery; in the site of Valenza lies the knowlege of goldsmithery artwork which is set in the mind and in the hands of ancient goldsmith masters who give to the youth the skills to carry on the tradition of. Valenza is open to all people who want to come to our school to learn our gold artwork and disabled people can have free and open access to our school and then get their job at our goldsmithery workshops. Valenza is the site where human rights of workers class are fully recognised. What I like best is the awarness of workers, men and women, no differnce between them. In the work process for handcrafting a jewel everyone is needed in the same way. None can make a jewel ready by himself. In the production chain of a jewel you need more people working at it. And in this process every workers , that is to say every men and every women, own the key skill to get the whole out come: the born of a jewel
