Overview

Our project, addressing the general public, through concrete activities and goals, in a very innovative way addresses the issue of protection, preservation, valorisation and promotion of cultural heritage. A public history lesson at Bedem intended for children from 2 elementary schools in Niksic will clearly stimulate the imagination of the youngest fellow citizens, introduce them on the spot to the values of the Old Town of Bedem, the fortress of the city and increase them through the adventure of the past, present, future with a clear intention to educate them as future generations that will shape the fate of ourselves and the cultural heritage that surrounds us. The art colony that will bring together young painters from Niksic will result in concrete works on the subject of Old Town Bedem and some landmarks from Europe, portrayed through personal experience and on canvas. The exhibition of the resulting works will leave an impression on its visitors and the general public, which will raise awareness of the need for a different attitude towards the common cultural heritage. By creating a sculpture or woodcut that will symbolize our common intention to further improve the cultural heritage, we will animate and create a clearer picture and image of our own and shared responsibility in raising awareness of the importance of preserving cultural heritage on the basis of sustainable development. A media and online campaign, a final press conference and a short promotional video will be a summary of our project as a cry, an appeal to everyone to keep track of the past, but also to create for generations to come.

Numerous clues have remained behind the human race, visible or invisible, which have yet to extend our existing knowledge of the reach and civilizational cultural heritage of the past. On the other hand, in the given time we ourselves leave traces for future generations and it is our obligation to preserve the roots but also to leave fruit. Cultural heritage enhances social cohesion through fostering a sense of shared identity and shared responsibility. It is our obligation to safeguard our own cultural personality as well as to promote awareness of cultural heritage as a means of facilitating peaceful coexistence, conflict resolution and prevention through the advancement of cultural diversity of all peoples and for all time. For these reasons, it is necessary to encourage, at all levels initiatives aimed at protecting, preserving, promoting, valorizing and digitizing a common European and world identity expressed through all forms of humanity's cultural heritage. Each work is an expression of creativity, imagination and hard work based on the principle of "hand in hand". Just imagine the feeling and experience of an archeologist at the first encounter with a newly discovered treasure from the past, and only before knowing and deciphering until that moment unknown “codes”? How important is the inextricable link between the surviving traces of the past from the perspective of continuity and the perception of a vision of the future? The space we live in is, in fact, an unknown territory that needs to be further explored and discovered. Cultural assets, though left to the mercy of transient ideologies, are in fact lasting evidence that these are cities in which the history of the human race is written, as images of human ideas and artistic reach of given epochs. Our project, following the Convention on the Protection of the Architectural Heritage of Europe, encourages the promotion of the protection of cultural heritage as a central factor in the interrelated goals of sustainable development, cultural diversity and complementary contemporary creativity, thus enhancing the very value of cultural heritage - by identifying, studying, interpreting, protection, preservation and presentation (promotion). The activities we propose with our project aim at improving the accessibility of cultural heritage, especially for young people, in order to raise awareness of its value, the need to maintain and preserve it, but also the benefits that flow from it or can stem from it. Our project represents a new, innovative approach to promotion with a particular focus on the European context. A public history lesson at the fort in Niksic, intended for elementary school students, will increase children's motivation as an audience and as a visitor. Cultural and natural heritage is certainly a multidimensional and much meaningful space essential for understanding, peace, democracy, development and cooperation, whether we like it or not, they speak of ourselves, as individuals or societies. In this regard, our project will provide partial answers to the following questions: What is our awareness of the culture and its impact on our lives and the community in which we live? What is our relationship to cultural heritage? Are we ready to follow positive practices? Are we open to new ideas and more modern approaches? Despite evident and growing problems at the local, national, regional and global levels, stories like this as well as format-driven initiatives are important from the point of view of the need to constantly monitor and strive for insight and cognition of new insights in a highly sensitive area of multifaceted cultural vulnerability a heritage that can be measured by the threat to human civilization itself, and ultimately to the entire human race. One thing is for sure, on behalf of all well-meaning people, activities should be continued to preserve the existing ones and to build future visible and impassable traces, works and cultural expressions. May Europeans, and citizens of this world, inspire future generations to never forget, but also to express themselves through a future platform of a common future. In addition to cultural heritage, it is necessary to preserve its natural environment, biodiversity and diversity of spiritual present, past and future. Ultimately, this project is a cry, an invitation to everyone at the local, national, regional and global level to preserve cultural heritage from oblivion and change that make it less valuable or may result in its disappearance. It is our duty as a measure of humanity to leave to our descendants cultural goods at least as we inherited them from our ancestors.

European Dimension

Our project, following the Convention on the Protection of the Architectural Heritage of Europe, encourages the promotion of the protection of cultural heritage as a central factor in the interrelated goals of sustainable development, cultural diversity and contemporary creativity that complement each other, thus enhancing the very value of cultural heritage - by identifying, studying, interpreting, protection, preservation and presentation (promotion). Our project follows one of the fundamental principles of the EU and that is "to preserve and promote cultural heritage and cultural diversity". The European dimension of the project is also recognized in our intention to increase the availability of information through media and online campaigns, through education and a clearer identity through cultural heritage, which has been proclaimed in numerous international documents, such as the UN Convention on the Protection of the World Natural and Cultural Heritage and European Convention on Culture. Our project clearly follows the recommendation of the Council of Ministers of the EU as well as the Euro-Mediterranean Charter on Integrative Valorisation of Cultural Heritage, which emphasizes the obligation to preserve cultural heritage and its sustainable purpose for human development and quality of life for future generations. By preparing and implementing imaginative project-based alternatives, we clearly and decisively follow the EU's vision towards pursuing strategic interests in the field of protection, preservation, promotion and valorisation of cultural heritage. The European dimension of our project is especially reflected through the art colony and the concrete works of the colony participants who will bring to the canvas their experience of some sights from the European metropolis. Finally, the European dimension is also recognized in our call to everyone that, following positive EU practices, we are all working together to further improve the cultural heritage situation - from the level of the local community and the city to the European format and platform.
