Overview

Singidunum 3D should enable a multi-disciplinary interpretation of the past, based on archaeological artifacts that, in an authentic manner, witness the antique past of Singidunum, through which today’s Belgrade was transformed into an urban center. The basic criteria through which artifacts will be chosen for the proposed form of digitalization is, that they are professionally valorized, with established local, national and regional cultural-historical significance. The strategy of the project is to gain digital 3D models of the objects that, today, are the tools with which museum and research institutions use to reach the general public, preserving the findings for the future generations at the same time.

The strategy of this story is to transform the identified collection of artifacts from the museums depository into a digital recording, whose quality allows, besides preserving and presenting them, a scientific analysis of the object. The final product of the digitalization is to also enable the printing of accurate “replacement” 3D models in quality and firm materials, for occasions in which it is important to allow access to rare and precious collections and is impossible in conventional conditions. It is intended that all of the work, on the digital perspective of cultural goods, 3D scanning, the processing of models and databases, is united within the web server of Belgrade City Museum. In addition, the plan is to supply a wide availability of data, through already existing web-platforms, made for the purpose of presenting 3D models, where, alongside the functions of measuring dimension, making of intersections of objects on the X, Y and Z coordinates, mapping interest points and their description, and efficient search engine of the collection through index keywords will be available. However, the greatest advantage of them is that archaeologists and other experts can process the 3D model multiple times and present their findings to the general public without the fear of the original artifact being damaged or lost. It is foreseen that Singidunum 3D is presented in the media and social media, as well as, the official website of Belgrade City Museum. The results of the project will also be presented to the expert public through participation in symposiums, organization of workshops and publishing of expert papers. All activities within Singidunum 3D have a goal of: preserving cultural heritage, enabling its long-term preservation, complementing the existing museum structure about cultural goods, promoting, presenting and increasing the availability of the cultural heritage and spreading the museums user population.

European Dimension

The project sends a message about the importance of preserving cultural heritage in a museum environment; it allows the exchange of professional knowledge and increases the reputation of cultural heritage that is being kept in Belgrade City Museum. With the digitalization program, open access and analysis of the cultural heritage, significant to Serbia but also Europe’s past, would be allowed. It is planned that Singidunum 3D creates a path for digitalizing of museums goods, which would be applicable to other collections, i.e. museums, thus creating terms for the continuation of the project. It is important to know, that it will allow the printing of replicas, which significantly contributes to the possibilities of growth and networking of creative industries, i.e. presenting the Museum as a new market for young experts and artists.
