For three generations now, DKT – the Austrian board game, which, similar to Monopoly, boosts your economic skills – has thrilled its players. By creating this special edition featuring the area of Hofburg Wien with its numerous museums, institutions, monuments and parks, Burghauptmannschaft Österreich aims to bring the history-rich area closer to all interested persons. The idea was born as a result of the European Cultural Heritage Label which was awarded to Hofburg Wien.

For three generations now, DKT (the abbreviation DKT stands for “The Commercial Talent”) – the Austrian board game, which – similar to Monopoly – boosts your economic skills – has thrilled its players. By creating this special edition of the board game DKT featuring the area of Hofburg Wien with its numerous museums, institutions, monuments and parks Burghauptmannschaft Österreich aims to bring the history-rich area closer to all interested persons. The idea was born as a result of the European Cultural Heritage Label which was awarded to Hofburg Wien in 2016. Therefore, a German and an English version of the game has been produced – involving the tenants of the building complex.
Hofburg Wien is a building complex which used to serve as the imperial residence of the Habsburgs. Today, it is used as the official residence of the Austrian Federal President; also, it houses five world-famous museums as well as other cultural institutions. There has been hardly any other place where political, economic and military history of European significance has been forged to the extent as has been the case for Hofburg Wien.
DKT Hofburg Wien gives its players the chance to learn more about this extraordinary cultural heritage. The game is designed for 3-6 players from 8 years onwards and consists of the game itself and the mediated historic background information (game instructions, EHL booklet - in DE and EN).

Burghauptmannschaft Österreich is an executive office of the Federal Ministry of Digital and Economic Affairs responsible for the maintenance and administration of historic objects and properties of the Republic of Austria which are part of the country’s cultural heritage. In this regard, it ensures that Austria’s cultural heritage is protected in a sustainable way. Its fields of activity, thus, include “Sustainable Conservation of the Cultural Heritage of the Republic of Austria”, “Sustainable Management and Use of the Cultural Heritage of the Republic of Austria” and “Sustainable Cultural and Touristic Use of the Cultural Heritage of the Republic of Austria”.
Burghauptmannschaft Österreich seeks to use a board game featuring the area of Hofburg Wien with its numerous museums, institutions, monuments and parks as a tool to bring the history-rich area closer to the general public, especially tourists from all over the world and young people. Therefore, a German and an English version of the game are available.
The building complex of Hofburg Wien, whose construction started out in 1240, served as the residence of the Habsburgs .The Habsburg Empire was a multi-ethnic and multi-religious one that exerted a strong influence on politics, administration, society and economy in a territory, which included, among others, the territory or parts of present-day Austria, Hungary, the Czech Republic, Poland and Slovenia. Due to this influence and to the represented European Values this complex received the European Heritage Label in 2016. Today, Hofburg Wien accommodates the official residence of the Austrian Federal President and five world-famous museums as well as other cultural institutions. Furthermore, the Hofburg complex comprises the Spanish Riding School, the collections of the National Library of Austria, the ceremonial rooms in the Presidential Chancellery Wing and other administrative areas of the Austrian Federal Administration.
