The golden age of cinemas came to an end at 1960´s. The last movie theatre in Kallio, named Arena, was shut down in 1993. However, the eastern downtown returns to the map of Cinema in the autumn of 2016, when theatre Riviera, which has been closed since 1982, opens its doors again in Harjukatu. Kallio´s walking-festival tour explores the history of various cinemas that have dotted the Kallio area. Tour takes you on a journey into cinematic history. Some of the cinema halls still exist, but they now have gyms, religious communities- and even Alko (liquor store) - inside those walls.
