A poem by Guðbjörg Ósk Halldórsdóttir (4. grade, age 9) composed after a school trip to the Basque whaling station at Strákatangi. The poem is called "Á Strákatanga" and is inspired by the recent archaeological excavation of a Basque whaling station at Strákatangi in Steingrímsfjörður in NW Iceland. Numerous structures and cultural deposits dating back to the time of Basque whalers in Iceland in the 17th century have been revealed illustrating cultural contact between different parts of Europe previously only known through written sources.
