The season of heritage discovery in Winchester is nearly here with the city’s Heritage Open Days programme starting on 7th September! For four days, Winchester and its surrounding villages and towns will be welcoming visitors to over 70 different and entirely free events taking place all across the city.

Various walks, tours, lectures, exhibitions, and performances will be organised to showcase the diversity of the town’s cultural heritage and celebrate its values. For those interested in finding out more about the historic, architectural, industrial or natural beauties in and around Winchester, the time is right to start planning the visit!

Explore Winchester's industrial heritage

The organisers behind Winchester Heritage Open Days are always sharing how diverse their local heritage is, and this year they are certainly demonstrating exactly how diverse it is with the history of computing, steam engines, engineering sheds, signal boxes and vintage buses.

Most of Winchester's transport and industrial heritage events you can simply turn up to but there are two you will need to book advance. Please also note that none of the industrial heritage venues or transport events will be open daily and many are open just one day so plan your visit(s)!

Take part in Winchester Heritage Open Days photo competition!

Winchester Heritage Open Days (HODs) thought it would be rather special if the cover photograph for next year's programme was one which had been taken by a visitor to a Heritage Open Day event rather than a member of the HODs team. And they decided the best way to find the photograph was to set up a competition for all visitors and residents of the town.

Participants are invited to submit their most remarkable Heritage Open Days photos for a chance to win a £50 voucher. All photos of a 2017 Winchester Heritage Open Days venue qualify and multiple entries are allowed! The winning one will be chosen by HODs judges, who will take into account the originality and the visual appeal of the photo.

For full details of the competition terms and conditions and to enter your photograph(s) visit Winchester Heritage Open Days website.
