European Heritage Days Slovenia Planning Event Held in Tolmin
A diversified programme of cultural events within European Heritage Days will once again invite Slovenians to embark on new heritage adventures this September. The 2017 edition of the festival will open up some new perspectives on the value of heritage with the theme dedicated to one of the most precious resources we receive from our environment.
Matching the pan-European theme of nature, this year’s events in Slovenia will be held under the slogan Water - from myth to architecture. This leitmotif will encourage event organisers to present the new meanings of heritage in our everyday lives through a series of nature-inspired activities.

The all-day opening event for this year’s festival will take place on 23rd September, 2017, while the planning meeting was held on 8th June, in the vivid town of Tolmin in the northwest Slovenia. This was a great occasion to present and discuss various aspects and colourful richness of cultural and natural heritage of Tolmin and surrounding areas. The response of diverse organisations to invitation of Institute for Protection of Cultural Heritage and Municipality of Tolmin for collaboration in this event was extremely good and the meeting was very inspiring.

The attendees had an opportunity to discuss a variety of ways in which European Heritage Days 2017 will help the citizens of Slovenia broaden their knowledge of the heritage around them. With an aim to promote public interest in the protection of cultural and natural heritage, as well as to educate the public on the idea of a common cultural heritage, European Heritage Days celebrate the richness and cultural diversity of Europe, while addressing some important social, political and economic challenges.
