Santa Vittoria of Serri is an archaological site, where every year thousands of tourists came to visit it.At the side of touristic activities there are scientific activities. These are attended by students from all over Europe. This created a time of cultural exchange among Serri community and both the students and the researchers from abroad. For this reason the population of Serri is more curious and involved in his own cultural heritage, thus creating a real experiment of community archaeology.

Santa Vittoria of Serri is an archaological site of nuragic age, a civilatation of Sardinia of the Protohistoric Age.  This civilatation has had many contacts with the others communities of the Mediterranean area, as it is documented by many archaeological artifacts found during excavations. By years, at the side of the touristic activities there are the scientific activities, by underlining the archaeological importance of this site. These activities are attended by students from all over Europe: Spain, Denmark, Germany and Greece. Thanks to these networks Serri has been a showcase for many events, both national and international. This created a time of cultural exchange among the community of Serri and both the students and the researchers from abroad. For this reason the population of Serri is now more curious and involved in his own cultural heritage, thus creating a real experiment of community archaeology. To guarantee a bigger sharing of the archaeological site, the municipality created some projects of accessibility, both phisic and intellectual, such as audioguides, improvement of the pedestrian paths inside the site, website and live excavation.

European Dimension

Our cultural heritage is every tangible and untangible good which can represent our own identity and origin, that we inherit from the past and which we have to transmit to the future through various events: this transmission, like in our case, goes through the public archaeology, but also through the archaeological excavation.
All the people that interact with the project are directly involved (from the tourist to the researcher) in a fair intercultural dialogue which fully respects the values expressed by the European Council in the field of human rights, democracy and rule of law. Students from all over Europe partecipate in the research activities (mainly from the University of Granada); students who arrive to Serri interact with the territory and they appreciate and analize the local culture, and viceversa.
In this way, in addition to research and cultural exchange, it is created a network and a bigger knowledge of our own European identity and everyone increase their own comprehension of its in the perspective of a bigger European citizenship.
