The Huittula storymap is a story about the village of Huittula in Sääksmäki in Finland. The villagers have become  aware of their own cultural heritage and have together constructed the digital Huittula storymap. The guided tour through the village makes the storymap of Huittula familiar both to new villagers and to visitors. This storymap will also be ”a treasure map” for the young generation in the future – the past meets the future.

The Huittula storymap is a story about the village of Huittula in Sääksmäki in Finland. The village has long roots from prehistory at least from the period of ”Finnish iron age” (400-800 AD).  
Three local societies have collected the history of the village, the stories of the houses and cottages, the livelihood and culture with artists and cultural plants of the region. The villagers have had an opportunity to debate and reflect, how to preserve and restore their heritage.
A guided tour through the village makes the storymap of Huittula familiar both to villagers and to visitors. By guiding people in the ”real” environment we help and encourage them to use the storymap. Now when we have this fine technology we have to get people to find it and use it. 
The storymap will be ”a treasure map” for the young generation in the future. Networking and use of technology is going to inspire them to participate in this project. The past really meets the future.
The connections between ancient people in Scandinavia and in South Europe have been found in the graves at Kiiliä. This cultural heritage was forwarded by the Vikings. The first historical documents, in the year 1340, tell us how 25 peasants resisted taxes of the Roman Catholic Church. The peasants were threatened by the Papal Bull. During the centuries villagers have been free and equal persons in their neighbourhood.

The common European history and heritage, the sense of community, the values of human rights and democracy, the past meets the future.
