#LoculAcestaConteaza was a campaign active in March - July 2017 in Moldova and encouraged citizens to discover and share with the large public cultural/historical places that matter for them and their communities. Participants had to take photos with the official campaign poster in front of cultural/historical sites that are important to them and then share these images on the social media platforms with the #LoculAcestaConteaza hashtag.

#LoculAcestaConteaza is a campaign that aims to raise public awareness of the importance of protecting cultural heritage sites. The project has the goal to promote the following ideas: 1) places which hold personal significance to citizens DO matter and are important on the national level, 2) rural places are equally as important as urban sites, 3) neglected and destroyed places can be lost forever, 4) cultural diversity enriches our societies 5) there is value in sustainability, adaptive reuse, and creativity in repurposing a historic structure. This campaign aligns with the European Union’s motto of “Unity in Diversity” by encouraging participants to highlight sites that represent the ethnic and cultural diversity of Moldova, such as sites within Gagauz, Jewish, Armenian and Roma communities, emphasizing that cultural heritage sites represent the best of Moldova. The concept of the project was quite simple: people were encouraged to take photos with the campaign poster in front of places that matter to them and then upload these on their social media pages with the #LoculAcestaConteaza hashtag. The project was inspired from the #ThisPlaceMatters campaign, active in the United States. In 2017 we have managed to cover over 20 towns and villages, meeting local people, discussing the importance of cultural heritage and organizing a few presentations as well. The project acquired significant visibility online and the most popular campaign image reached 167,000 people, which represented around 23% of the Moldova's Facebook population at that time. The project was implemented by the Agency for Inspection and Restoration of Monuments in Moldova with financial support from the United States Embassy in the Republic of Moldova. The total budget for the campaign was 600 US dollars.

European Dimension

This campaign aligns with the European Union’s motto of “Unity in Diversity” by encouraging participants to highlight sites that represent the ethnic and cultural diversity of Moldova, such as sites within Gagauz, Polish, German, Jewish, Armenian and Roma communities, emphasizing that cultural heritage sites represent the best of Moldova. We have translated the official campaign poster in 16 different languages, representing all the different cultures that have lived in the current Republic of Moldova across the centuries. Thus citizens could link their identity with specific cultural heritage sites while raising awareness with regards to the diversity and uniqueness of our common cultural heritage.
