Aperçu

Luis Vives was one of the first students that studied at the University of Valencia, which was founded in 1499. He came from a converted Jewish family, that is why, his parents sent him to Paris to complete his studies in order to protect him from the climate of anti-Semitic intolerance that prevailed at the time.

With this itinerary, the Universitat aims to show the different spaces that made up the old Jewish quarter where Vives lived the first years of his life. Despite the fact that the Jewish mark was erased from the city and no visible testimonies remain, this tour will bring its participants closer to the humanist legacy of tolerance and respect that Vives left in his writings. The itinerary will end at the historic building of the University of Valencia, now the La Nau Cultural Centre, next to the sculpture of the humanist who presides over the cloister.
