To Celebrate 150th Anniversary of the Park we are holding a celebration around 150 years of the park with 16 Flags of welcome and the recreation of Speaker's Corner.

We hope to have a festive atmosphere with live music, flags of welcome along the park's Victorian raised walk.
The main event being the recreation of Speaker's Corner, with local school children and other local residents taking to a "soap box". The theme of protest will be enhanced by songs and placards. The Flags of Welcome were made by local community groups, will provide a colourful display. Hopefully, there will also be other performers in other parts of the park to create a very special date.
As part of the 150th Anniversary of the park, we have 15 new trees, one for each decade, 2 clocks restored on the Lodge and an Interpretation Board with many examples of the protests that have happened in the park.

Access

There is a disabled toilet in the pavilion cafe and in Chorlton Lodge. Both will be available.

COVID-19 Considerations

This event will run in line with local & national government guidelines at the time of the festival. This event is subject to covid restrictions and is taking place in a city park. Manchester Council reserves the right to cancel the event if covid restrictions demand this.

Additional Information

We are waiting for the results of some funding applications and so if successful, there will be more performances, but the funding for the Flags of Welcome. Speakers Corner with spoken word, songs and placards will take place. The funding is also in place for the 2 clocks. Directions

Alexandra Park is on Alexandra Road South on one side and Princess Parkway on the other side. There is a good bus service from the centre of Manchester the No 85 takes one directly to the park.
