New life
After the training held by HAEMUS, at which the project "Young European heritage makers " was presented to the participating teachers, we informed our students about what we learned and they told us that they would like to participate in the project. The student came up with many different ideas for introducing our country to the wored and after having considered all of those ideas we decided to present our customs and traditions for a newborn baby.
Customs and traditions which come with the birth of a baby are different everywhere and so is the case in our country. Namely, our region has interesting traditions which some of the mothers decide to respect.
According to our tradition donuts or mekicas (depending on the region)are prepared for the birth of the baby in the family. The donuts or the mekicas are prepared by the grandmother on the mother’s side immediately after the birth of the baby or after three days .Guests are invited for that occasion, usually women who celebrate the birth of the new life bringing small presents.
This tradition dates back a very long time, so as to say in the past every house had flour, water, oil, so the donuts or the mekicas were most convenient to make. The symbol of the donuts or mekicas was for the baby to be “soft”, they are served sweet so that the baby will have sweet life.
