Ohrid
The city of Ohrid is made up of 50 thousand inhabitants. Where it is made up of Macedonians, Albanians and Turks.
Ohrid has an ancient history where it flourished
to be a place like a mosaic with its color and nature and culture.
The combination of many natural beauties and historical and cultural values makes this city one of the favorite destinations for tourists. Ohrid served as a shelter for the first rebel groups against the Ottoman rule. While many Albanian patriots from this city have made an extraordinary contribution. I know about the League of Prizren, the general uprising for the liberation of Albania and the declaration of its independence in 1912.
It is the largest city on Lake Ohrid and the eighth largest city in the country, with the municipality registering a population of over 42,000 inhabitants as of 2002.
The city is rich with picturesque houses and monuments and tourism is predominant. Also, the city of Ohrid is known for the 365 churches that are built every year and is referred to as the "Jerusalem of the Balkans". Lake Ohrid is known as one of the oldest lakes in the world and one of the largest lakes in the Balkan Peninsula.
Most of the lake belongs to North Macedonia, and the rest to Albania.
In 1979 and 1980 respectively, Ohrid and Lake Ohrid were accepted as World Cultural and Natural Heritage Sites by UNESCO. And it is one of the 28 countries that is part of UNESCO's World Heritage Sites.
