Paattistenjoki begins right near Klooti's croft. The river is a small river throughout its journey and is also known as Little river, Vähäjoki. The length is 27 km. But the river also has historical significance. At the end of the river there is Koroinen promontory, the crossing of Aurajoki and Paattistenjoki. Ancient Turku, Åbo, was born there.
The river rises in Patis and flows out in Aura river in Korois. The promontory between the rivers was the seat of Finland's bishop during the 13th century. Paattistenjoki is mentioned already:
”Registrum Ecclesiae Aboensis. 11 november 1368. Bequest by Canon Johannes Vestfal of Abo of property at Räntämäki to one Helena in recognition of her long and faithful service. After her death the property shall be conveyed to Abo Cathedral.
On property in Pathis, in the parish of Renthæmekj. Those present knew that I, Johannes Westphal, a canon and eunuch of the church of Aboensis, had given and assigned certain goods acquired by me, in the parish of Renthæmækj near Pathes aa situated in three places, with all their appurtenances, to a certain matron, named Elene, according to his account long and faithful service I have spent and spent on impostors, but now that the aforesaid goods after the death of the cathedral church itself give right to perpetual possession. In witness of which my seal is attached to the seals of the lords of Dethmar, my brother, the concanon, and Rotcheri, the priest. Given in the year Dominj mccclxviij, on the day of blessed Martin, bishop and confessor. (”Super bonis in Pathis, parochie Renthæmekj.”)

From Klooti's farm it is 24,8 km to Turku and 13,1 km to Kurjenrahka National Park (13 minutes along road 204). You can stay at Klooti's farm and make trips from there to Kurjenrahka.
Kurjenrahka nationalpark is a national park in Southwest Finland. That area consists mainly of bog, but also includes primeval forests, some of which have been unmanaged for over 150 years. Hiking and cycling routes are near.
Near Klooti's farm there has been a so-called fairytale castle, Ikkala's castle. In reality, there has been no castle, but there have already been several medieval roads right near the place.
There has been summer roads, Nunnantie and Jöllintie – Huovintie. Then there has been winter roads, Halkivahantie and Saarenojantie, which have passed right through Ikkala castle. The roads have been mentioned in folk tales. The roads have led to the highlands, e.g. to Köyliö and Kokemäki. All roads have led of course to Turku, to the market. In the old days winter roads went directly to Turku. Horse and sleigh have been a practical way to get around.
Also Airikintie has been quite near. Airik is Saint Eric, so it has been a pilgrimage route and parallel route of St. Henry's road.
According to the stories Ikkala Castle is owned by a great castle master. Reportedly the gate of Ikkala Castle is now in Turku Castle.
A special fairy tale place is in Paattistenjoki, Ikkala's rapids. Maybe the rapid is a little too much. But Ikkala's rapid has its own treasure story. Similar stories have happened nearby, a midsummer story and a nun story. Nun's ditch is nearby.
Nearby boundary stones are also interesting. Paattinen Local Heritage Society - Homestead association Paattinen – Paattisten Seura ry has organized various discovery trips for example to the boundary stones.
One boundary stone is right near Klooti's farm. Vahtermäki, Maple Hill. The name has already been mentioned 1439. It is the border point of Lieto, Turku (Paattinen) and Aura. Our association is not afraid of getting lost or the forest.
Our association has made paths. They are the Paattisten nature trail, the Paattistenjoki river trail and Airik's trail. It is important to know the environment.
