Abbeyleix Vitality Hub & Pedal Vintage Durrow are hosting a leisure cycle through the grounds of Abbeyleix House & Farm, by kind permission. Abbeyleix Vitality Hub is a community initiative set up to help increase participation in physical activity. As part of Laois Heritage Week, we are delighted to connect with our neighbours in Durrow to explore mutual cultural and historical connections by cycling through the old routes and networks within Abbeyleix House and Farm.

The cycle will commemorate the 10th anniversary of the 1st Bulfin cycle, set up to explore Heritage on a High nelly bicycle, the brainchild of Hughie Sheppard. Cyclists will visit the grave of Ancient Chieftain Malachy O'Moore/O'More where a short tribute to the recently deceased Hughie Sheppard will be held. The Sheppard family will participate in the cycle.

Cycling from Abbeyleix will commence at 2pm from Fr Breen Park through Tullyroe to Oldtown to the main Estate entrance.
Cycling from Durrow will commence at 1.45pm from Bob's Bar through Kyle, Crookedwood, Oldtown to the main Estate entrance.
Both groups will enter together through the main entrance where a visit to the walled garden and a talk by Head Gardener, Helen Roche will be given and tea/coffee will be served.
Depart at 5pm through the North Gate on to the N77 facilitating cyclists returning to Abbeyleix & Durrow.
As this is a Heritage Week event cyclists are encouraged to use old style bicycles & clothes. All welcome to use their own bikes and own attire.
Security on the Estate is strict so please obey all instructions & keep to the guided route.
Safety is strictly enforced Helmets & High Viz are obligatory
A photographer will accompany the cycle.
Registration is essential as numbers are limited for this event. Name & phone number required. Spaces are limited so registration deadline is 5pm Sunday August 18th.
