Aperçu

Swifts come to Co Mayo every year from late April to early September. They come here to breed – to lay their eggs and rear their young. For the birds that come to Co. Mayo this is their home because they breed here. They spend the rest of the year in Africa but do not breed there.

Join Swift Conservation Mayo at Lough Lannagh Leisure Centre ( Friday 23rd August at 7.30pm) to learn about the ground-breaking conservation work that has been carried out since 2012 across County Mayo to secure and increase the breeding population of Swifts.

There will be a 45 minute presentation where Lynda Huxley and Jarek Majkusiak will show the amazing life story of the Swift and will present the preliminary findings of the 2024 Swift Survey of County Mayo carried out by a dedicated team of volunteers. They will give information on how the survey was carried out. What the situation is for towns across the county. They will also show how successful the various nest boxes projects have been and how the built-in projects have compared to the externally mounted nest boxes.

Come and Join us to find out about the Swifts in the town where you live.

There will be tea/coffee and biscuits.
