Aperçu

In 2024, Meath County Council with the support of the National Parks and Wildlife Service through the Local Biodiversity Action Fund commissioned Birdwatch Ireland to re-survey the county's Common Swift (Apus apus) population. This follows Meath's first survey of Swifts in 2019 which observed over 260 active nests in 12 towns and villages across County Meath.

Five years on, it is time to investigate whether the County Meath Swift population has diminished, remained steady or grown between 2019 and 2024.

Come along to this evening presentation from Birdwatch Ireland to learn about this iconic and intriguing migratory bird species, why it has suffered drastic population declines in Ireland and what is being done at a local level to halt the loss of this endangered species.
Registration for this event is essential.
