Big Houses and Big Mountains - conference
Belvedere House and Gardens will host a panel of speakers who will explore the many Westmeath links to global mountaineering history. The event will commence with coffee/registration at 10am and talks will start at 10.30am.
Ruth Illingworth will discuss 'Belvedere House: a history of its owners'.
11:20am 'Charles Howard Bury, Tibet and 1921' a presentation by Ian Kenneally which will include photos from Howard-Bury’s own collection.
At 12:10pm Marc Mc Menamin will deliver a talk entitled - '29,000ft above the sea': Mallory, Everest and Ireland'.
Lunch break 1pm-2pm
At 2pm Frank Nugent will speak on 'Irish Alpinists of the Golden Age of Alpinism'. His talk will include reference to Anthony Adams Reilly of Mullingar.
