Aperçu

Join us in Ardgillan Castle Drawing Room for a talk on the fascinating history of the Irish Railway system, focusing on the pivotal Dublin to Drogheda Railway Line. Discover how the connective trails created by the railway have shaped and impacted the history of Fingal County especially Balbriggan.

The talk will make special reference to the railway line being built through the Ardgillan Demesne in 1844, changing the landscape forever. Rev. Henry Edward Taylor and his wife Marianne were in residence at this time. The addition of the railway line didn't come without benefits to the Taylor Family.

This interesting talk will be given by renowned railway historian Jonathan Beaumont. This is a free event and all are welcome!
There is parking in our lower carpark, closer to the castle, which is reserved for visitors over 70 and for wheelchair users.
