From Tóchar Cruachán to Tóchar Pádraig; our Holy Mountain.
Dr Patrick Claffey, will outline the myths, prehistory and early history associated with Croagh Patrick and examines the role ‘the Reek’ came to play over the centuries in Connacht.
Dr. Claffey is a native of Castlerea. He joined the Society of the Divine Word in Donamon. He worked from 1977-2002 in Togo and Bénin, West Africa.
He pursued postgraduate studies af the School of Oriental and African Studies, following which he taught at the Milltown Institute of Theology and Philosophy where he was the Head of the Mission Department. Following the closure of the Milltown Institute, he took up a post at Trinity College Dublin as Assistant Professor teaching courses in African and Asian Christianities, Fundamentalism in Christianity and Islam, and the Dharmic Religions of Hinduism and Buddhism.
This is a free event, but as places are limited please book a place in advance in order to avoid disappointment. We would also ask attendees for a suggested donation of €5 to the Mayo / Roscommon Hospice on the night.
