A collection of modern art (1925-1965) The Zervos museum is sheltered in the superb house where died Romain Rolland and who stays at home of the writer, commemorative site. The museum exposes(explains) the most beautiful rooms(parts,plays) of the collection left to the city by Christian Zervos (on 1889-1970, founder of the Exercise books of art) which was next(went alongside) to the biggest(greatest) artists in his/her time. Sculptures and relief of Laurens are next(go alongside) to a motive(mobile) of Calder, and works of Picasso and of González repeat the links which existed between these two artists. The first wall painting of Light, made to Vézelay, was put down(deposited) in the museum. They also see two small sculptures of Giacometti, paintings(paints) of Kandinsky, Ernst, Mir ó, Hélion and Victor-Brauner. For the years of postwar years, works of Villon, Stäel, Poliakoff, Vieira da Silva, Hajdu. In the splendid space of attic, is emphasised the activity of critic(criticism) and of publisher(editor) of Zervos, as well as its collection of objects and Mediterranean idols (Cyclades, Egypt, Cyprus and archaic Greece). With its medieval basements, its terrace opening on Morvan, the museum establishes(constitutes) an inescapable(major) place.
