The fort of Leveau was built between 1882 and 1884 according to the strategy set up by the general Séré of Rivers. There are one of the six forts built to defend(forbid) the city of Maubeuge and to put back(hand) its defensive system to level. The fort is going to undergo fights of September, 1914 during the seat(siege) of the fortified town. Having bombed 7, the structure of fort shows itself totally maladjusted to the shootings(firings) of the German modern artillery. About 120 men(people) die there. The fort is at the moment one of the last witnesses(batons) of the history(story) of Maubeuge in 1914\\.
