Aperçu

By 1795, Philippe Fontenilliat bought the earth(ground) of Vast to create an important cotton shadowing(spinning) there. On this domain, crossed by the river Saire, existed four old(former) mills. The factory began to work in 1803\\. In 1817, to increase the power of the factory, the founder converts into ponds and reservoirs about three hectares of meadows located near(about) its mill. It is in its factory that was installed(settled) the first turbine in Europe of a power of 100 CV. The factory was demolished(destroyed) in 1891\\. They built on its place the castle which is seen today. The waterfalls(stunts) of Vast that was believed natural are the last memory(souvenir) of the shadowing(spinning); the cataract of the factory was so transformed in that way by the house Combaz to which they also owe the construction of the waterfalls(stunts) of the wood of Boulogne.
