Aperçu

Private mansion built between 1746 and 1751 by Abel-Michel Chesnard de Layé, who transmitted it in 1753 to his son, Pierre-Anne Chesnard de Layé, lieutenant general of the bailiwick of Mâcon (1746), councillor to Parliament (1748) then president to mortar in the parliament of Burgundy (1751). In 1767 it was bought by Florent-Alexandre-Melchior de La Baume, the fourteenth and last count of Montrevel, who embellished it by adding two wings. He had the Grand Salle de la Comédie (now the Salle du Conseil Municipal) built, housing a parterre, an orchestra and a stage surrounded by two series of lodges1\\. In 1792, the town of Mâcon bought it from its owner and made it its town hall. In 1880, François Martin, mayor of Mâcon, had two more wings built in return, on the side of Rue Carnot, framing a courtyard overlooking Place Saint-Pierre. The City Hall has been inscribed as a historic monument since December 29, 1941.
