Aperçu

On a rocky tray(plateau) in a buckle(loop) of Dolo, the city of Bressuire gets organised in Middle Ages around two pits(cores) of populating, which correspond even today to both strong elements of urban heritage: the castle of the Sires on the West, near the priory Saint-Cyprien, and the church Notre-Dame in the East. The castle appears as one of the largest fortresses of the XIIth and XIIIth centuries kept(preserved) in the western Centre of France, built by Beaumont, vassals of the viscounts of Thouars, with the support of Plantagenêts, counts of Poitou and kings of England today. Its history(story) is however much longer and studies which were led on the site allow to glimpse the evolution of the castle from the beginning of the XIth century till the end of the XVth century.
