LAS ARENAS TOUR

This tour shows us the changes that occurred in the commercial and industrial Getxo throughout the 20th century. The old road to Portugalete, once lost among sandy areas, marshes, and pine forests, has now become a wide avenue with its surrounding city. Where the small boat once stood to cross the estuary of Bilbao, today there is a transporter bridge declared a World Heritage Site. The sweat of the women who used to haul ships has been replaced by the robust engines of modern boats. And the former Las Arenas beach is now a promenade lined with beautiful houses.

RECORRIDO DE LAS ARENAS  

Este recorrido nos muestra los cambios producidos en el Getxo comerciante e industrial a lo largo del siglo XX. El antiguo camino a Portugalete, perdido entre arenales, pantanos y pinares, se ha convertido hoy en una amplia avenida, con su ciudad circundante. En el lugar donde estaba la chalupa para cruzar la ría, se ubica hoy el transbordador declarado Patrimonio de la Humanidad. El sudor de las sirgueras de antaño, son robustos motores de barcos en la actualidad. Y la antigua playa de Las Arenas es hoy un paseo de hermosas casas.
