Until the 18th century, Lamothe-Fénelon was called Lamothe-Massat. The church was a non-conventional priory belonging to the abbey of Souillac since at least the twelfth century. Géraud de Massaut, monk of Souillac, is the prior in 1253. The plan of the apse, with a horseshoe-shaped hemicycle and a straight span, led to believe that this part dates back to the High Middle Ages. However, the device of cut stones laid without joint does not allow to place it before the second half of the XIIe century. The western façade was rebuilt in the 14th century, as was the widening of the nave to the west. The north chapel was rebuilt in the 1490s, probably by Jean de Salignac, lord of the place, who asks to be buried in the chapel, newly built, of Notre-Dame-de-Parcise, in 1497.
