Exceptional opening of the Récollets church: follow the guide!
The arrival of the Recollets at Saint-Céré followed a request made by the parishioners of Sainte-Spérie on April 1, 1621\\. It was only in 1639 that a contract was signed for the construction of a convent, which was completed in 1645\\. Those in the chapel did not begin until 1658 and the inauguration did not take place until 1662\\. The Recollet fathers remained in place until the Revolution. In 1792, the convent was sold as a national property to a resident of Molières in the Lot, but the church, sacristy and choir were bought in 1806 by the parish priest of Sainte-Spérie for the parish’s Pénitents Bleus. In 1857, the chapel became a parish church for all the faithful of Saint-Céré living on the left bank of the river. A bell tower was built in 1861 which formalized the new status. The parish existed until 1951, when its last parish priest died.
