Initially a simple fort built in the early 1760s to defend the harbour of Pointe-à-Pitre, the fort became an essential defensive work in 1794 in the fight against the English and for the establishment of the revolutionary regime in Guadeloupe. The Fort Fleur d'Epée was the last element of the fortification system that was built around the Petit-Cul de Sac as the port of Pointe à Pitre gained power. A true garden, Fort Fleur d'Epée offers a unique panoramic view of Gosier Bay and the windward coast of Basse Terre. Listed under the Historic Monuments
