Aperçu

First parish church of Dompaire, the church Saint-Jean-Baptiste goes back up(raises) to the XIIth century with its bedhead and its Romanic bell tower. In the XVth century, it is partly rebuilt, in particular the nave, the portal(gate) and the south chapel. This primitive(initial) church of Dompaire, of Romanic style, could remain(subsist), almost in its original dimensions(size), because it was replaced, far off, in the new castral market town, by another church, bigger(greater) and built in Gothic style. Abandoned(Given up) or reduced to the state of not parish, secondary church, reserved for the Lords who built their chapel there, she(it) undergoes not enough transformations. However, this beautiful evidence of the Romanesque art, with churches close to Bouzemont and to Adompt, deserves to be emphasised. Municipalities and State knew how to keep(preserve) and maintain this heritage, and, if possible, with the help of associations, to make her live.
