New Toolkit Provides Inspiration for Cross-border Events
Simultaneous walks and tours at Cultural Routes` destinations, exciting competitions, sports events at interesting heritage sites – this new toolkit can help you to start planning your own cross-border event that will introduce your heritage network or site. The kit offers ideas for cross-border and local heritage events and good suggestions for how to plan them.
This toolkit of ideas for cross-border and local heritage events is based on the ideas and examples from the Cultural Routes of the Council of Europe and European Heritage Days National Coordinators from all over Europe. Ideas for heritage events and examples of inspiring cross-border events arranged by the Cultural Routes were collected through a survey conducted in autumn 2024.
The toolkit can be used by Cultural Routes sites, European Heritage Label sites and other heritage sites, communities and enthusiasts. The toolkit encourages people to organise events especially for European Heritage Days and to join forces with other European heritage sites to present our unique culture and networks.
Join the Social Media Campaign and Present your Sites Architectural Heritage
Social media provides an easy way to showcase your heritage site widely. In 2025, European Heritage Days are being celebrated under the theme ´Architectural Heritage´. The Cultural Route sites and other heritage sites and networks are invited to present their site’s architecture on social media and to use the free templates in the toolkit.
Download the templates and place a photo of your site on it. Publish the picture on social media with a short text about the site and its architecture. Use the hashtag #EuropeanHeritageDays and you can tag European Heritage Days or your national event.

Transnational Project behind the Toolkit
The toolkit of ideas for cross-border and local heritage events has been made in a transnational project by European Heritage Days coordinators in three countries – Finland, Norway and Poland. The project was funded by European Heritage Days, a joint programme of the Council of Europe and the European Union.
The toolkit material is available in four languages: English, Finnish, Norwegian and Polish. You can access the material from this page and the websites of Euroopan kulttuuriympäristöpäivät / Finnish, Kulturverndagene / Norwegian and Europejskich Dni Dziedzictwa / Polish.
Get inspired with the toolkit and start planning your own cross-border event for European Heritage Days!
