13 September 2025 (12:00 - 17:00) 14 September 2025 (12:00 - 17:00) Troon Church of Scotland is the new congregation created in 2024 by the union of Portland, St Meddan’s and Troon Old parish churches. Our three sites in Troon town centre are home to four listed buildings. From modern Troon’s oldest church, to a church that first served as a WW1 hospital, each has its own fascinating story to tell. Troon Old Parish Church: Neo-Gothic designed by Hippolyte Blanc. Built 1893-5 to supersede 1838 sanctuary now used as the church hall. Fine stained glass, marble floors and alabaster reredos. St Meddan's Parish Church: Built 1888 in Gothic style. Prominent spire and bell tower with 1751 clock built by Andrew Dickie. Beautiful stained-glass windows. Portland Parish Church: Opened 1914 and designed by H E Clifford & Lunan. The last church in Ayrshire to be built in the grand manner. War memorial window by Guthrie & Wells. Fine organ by Harrison & Harrison. (Please note that Troon Old church buildings are scheduled to close and be sold in late 2025, so access to that site cannot be guaranteed.) For Doors Open Days visitors are welcome to drop in to St Meddan’s Sanctuary (Church St building) which will be open for viewing. St Meddan’s is also the starting point for guided tours of our other two sites. Walking tours of Portland Parish Church and Old Troon Parish Church during opening times - no need to book, just drop into St Meddan's. Interpretive displays telling the story of the Church in Troon. Refreshments will be available.
