Aperçu

13 September 2025 (11:00 - 17:00) 14 September 2025 (11:00 - 17:00) The Nature Library is a library and reading space celebrating books which highlight the natural world in all its forms, at a time when it needs our attention the most. Started in 2019 by Christina Riley, it began as a roving collection popping up in public spaces across Scotland. In spring 2024, The Nature Library opened a physical premises in Irvine, Ayrshire, taking up residence in an old shipyard worker’s flat down at the harbour and in association with the Scottish Maritime Museum. Visitors are invited to discover the past, present and future of our planet with a specially curated collection which takes visitors from the earth’s unfathomable past to imaginatively envisioned futures. Think about deep time through mountain and stone, dive beneath the waves amongst astonishing underwater life, listen to the messages of trees told through complex networks of fungi and discover stories of how humans and other animals live on, and with, the land in Irvine and beyond. Visitors can drop-in for zinemaking all weekend, which is a method of creating your own handmade book about the flora, fauna and mineralia. All books in The Nature Library are free to read and borrow.
