Shoebox city - Workshop: Join us for an all-ages creative session as part of Glasgow’s Doors Open Days Festival where we get hands on with imagining and building the city of the future. This year’s theme is ‘Glasgow:The Visionary City’ and the Festival invites us to share our hopes and ideas for Glasgow’s future. Across the day we’ll be building a model of what a future Glasgow might look like. A range of recycled materials and art supplies will be provided. Alongside the creative workshops we’ll be screening some films from our archive that show how Glasgow’s landscape has changed over the decades. There will be two sessions, one in the morning and one in the afternoon. The workshops are free and run on a drop-in basis, but if you want to secure your place you can book on Eventbrite. Overview: The National Library of Scotland is one of the largest libraries in the United Kingdom. There are over 24 million items held at the Library in various formats including books, annotated manuscripts and first-drafts, postcards, photographs, and newspapers. The library is also home to Scotland's Moving Image Archive, a collection of over 46,000 videos and films, which is housed in the Kelvin Hall in Glasgow. Here visitors can search and explore the collection, attend regular talks and screenings and participate in hands on creative workshops relating to our collection. The Kelvin Hall is an iconic building that the people of Glasgow have fond memories of, past and present. Our Shoebox city craft session will also give children the chance to build their own ideal city. Quiet space available. Water bottle can be filled up.
