Islands Book Trust
6 September 2025 (11:00 - 16:00) Ian McHardy, a professional archaeologist and author of the recent book ‘Contemplating Calanais’ published by IBT in 2024, will be giving a talk* at the Breascete Community Centre about recent research on the Callanish Stones. This will be followed by a visit to the Stones. This event links to the 2025 Doors Open Days theme as the Callanish Stones are a world-famous part of the built heritage of Lewis, but the reasons why the stones were erected on this particular site are subject to continuing debate and speculation – including in the local community. *Please be advised there is a charge for attending the talk, but the guided walk is free to attend. The Breasclete community Centre has toilet and accessible facilities for those attending the talk at 11am. Please be advised the visitor centre at Callanish is closed so there are no facilities available at the Stones.
