⛪ The Saint-Étienne chapel of Cavall and its mysterious Black Virgin
Nestled between the Agoût and the Vèbre, in La Salvetat-sur-Agout, the Saint-Étienne de Cavall chapel, known as Notre-Dame d'Entraygues, has watched over the village since the Middle Ages. This small Romanesque building, listed as a Historic Monument, intrigues with its Black Virgin – one of the smallest in Occitania – visible even when the chapel is closed, thanks to a small opening in the wall. ✨ According to the legend, the statuette would have been discovered by an ox during a cholera epidemic, protecting then the inhabitants and the herds. It is still carried in procession every year at Pentecost. Between Romanesque heritage, popular traditions and wonderful stories, this chapel is a must for history and sacred heritage enthusiasts in Haut-Languedoc. Informations Free. Without reservation.
