Drogheda Tidy Towns are delighted to have been awarded a €25,000 grant from the Heritage Council of Ireland to support the restoration of 1896 Drogheda’s historic boundary stones. These civic markers, installed following the 1896 Drogheda Corporation Act, reflect the town’s expansion and are an important part of our local heritage. Of the original thirteen stones, nine survive, some hidden by vegetation or threatened by development. Thanks to the dedicated research of Alan Lynch, a member of Drogheda Tidy Towns and great-grandson of Mayor Peter Lynch (1896–1897), we now have a detailed record of these stones and their significance. To share this story and and more details on the plan for restoration and conservation of these boundary stones, Drogheda Tidy Towns will host an event during Heritage Week. The event will take place on Thursday, August 21st at 7:00 PM in the Louth Local Development Office, John Street, Haymarket, Drogheda, A92 KP58.
