They are discrete persistances - like a perfume in the air, a warmth on an empty chair, a sensation in the hollow of the stomach - without one knowing where they come from. They inhabit places, bodies, objects, carried by the memory of gestures and presences. These presences of suspended memories, alive, which continue to dialogue with the present, without making any noise. There are memories that do not fade. They inhabit gestures, silences, materials. They survive bodies, places, and narratives. They persist in the faults, in the margins, in what still trembles beneath the surface. Between absence and appearance, between intimacy and artistic commitment, Rémanences offers a space where memory becomes material for creation, a space where the past never ceases to dialogue with the present. An exhibition like a chamber of echoes: that of traces that refuse to disappear. Some traces illuminate more than they weigh. They cross time. Sensitive, unalterable memories, bearing echoes, fragments that reappear otherwise. They survive places, stories. They persist in the faults, the margins, in what still vibrates beneath the surface. The artists gathered here give shape to these fertile persistances: reinvented memories, transformed materials, stories transmitted or dreamed, so many subterranean beats. Memories that are not always said, but which are deposited, transformed, reactivated. Their works touch on what connects us: to what has been, to what is happening.
